Athlete’s Corner
The PAY Sports Programme offers multi-sport codes that our learners can sign up for as a matter of choice. Since ever child must know how to swim, ride a bike and think critically, swimming, cycling and chess and are compulsory for all. Our youngest participants learn to cycle within the BMX programme. It doesn’t come as a surprise is that soccer is the most popular sport code at PAY. Taking part in soccer is participation based which means that every player who signs up for soccer gets a chance to play, whether they excel in the sport or not. Gender plays absolutely no role, in other words, girls and boys are equally encouraged to take part. Cycling teams take part in the FNB Schools League while promotion into senior and elite categories is based on recommendation by the coaches.
Objectives
Though our primary aim is to have all the learners participate in some form of physical activity, it remains our goal as the sports development programme to not only offer a variety of sports choices but to offer the youth opportunities to develop their sporting talent. In so doing, we develop youth through sport but we also develop the sport itself.
Our drive and mandate is to identify and develop talent through an organized sports program and help them collide with the future of their dreams.
Our goals are therefore threefold:
- To use sport as a tool to keep the youth engaged and away from street life
- To integrate sport and life skills education in order to promote healthy lifestyle behaviours
- To develop the sport through breeding young talents and bringing opportunities to play for national teams and offer professional development opportunites
