Robotics @ P.A.Y.

In 2017, PAY has embarked upon delivering robotics classes through collaboration with and support from FABLAB Namibia

1What is robotics?
The branch of technology that deals with the design, construction, operation and application of robots.
2What is a robot?
A robot is a programmable mechanical device that can perform tasks and interact with its environment, without the aid of human interaction.
3Why teach robotics?
Here are five reasons why we decided to teach robotics to learners at P.A.Y. starting already in primary phase: 1. Children find it fun 2. It's an effective way of introducing programming to learners 3. It provides skills useful in future employment 4. It's suitable for children with a range of abilities 5. It demystifies a complex technology
4How we do it at P.A.Y.?
P.A.Y. IT Officer Macveren D Kapukare coordinates all the robotics activities between P.A.Y. and FabLab. Selected cohort of P.A.Y. learners in Grades 1 to 10 attend Fabab’s new technology and robotics class every Friday by following a learning module called “Practical Experience in Engineering and Programming”. During this course the kids will not only learn the basics of engineering and computer programming through robotics, but will foster their mechanical skills and creativity.

Robots are becoming more prevalent in today’s society. They are used in high-level applications such as space exploring right through to commercial vacuuming robots found in everyday households. By starting early, we make sure we at P.A.Y. do our part in building a knowledge-based Namibia.
